“25 years ago musical entertainment for children was almost a Canadian industry. Streaming through the door that was opened by Raffi and blown in by Sharon, Lois and Bram came a whole procession of artists… Debbie Carroll is the equal of the best of them, and continues the tradition of providing high-quality music for young children…. Carroll has a sweet, perfectly-pitched voice reminiscent of Sharon Hampson, and sings simply and without mannerism…” Terry Robbins, Wholenote Magazine

It is March break. The sun is shining down on Toronto’s gigantic snow piles. Perhaps some day the snow will melt. I imagine spring flowers hibernating far below, staying warm in their bulbs. Please don’t wake up yet! Snow! Snow! Snow! We hardly know where to put it anymore! Last week, just before I went out to shovel snow (again!), I put pencil to paper and began to write a snow poem that turned into a poem about colours.

White If You Know : Your verses!

from Taivi Lobu
Silver – go look! It’s the babbling brook. The babbling brook - it’s silver, go look!

from Rick Hehner
Black if I’m right * Is the colour of night * The colour of night * Is black if I’m right
Pink if you say * Are my toes, okay? * My toes, okay? * Are pink if you say

from Ginny Walsh
Orange I have seen * Is a tangerine * A tangerine * Is orange I have seen
Yellow I am told * Is a marigold * A marigold * Is yellow I am told

from Janet Buchanan
Blue, my oh my * Is the colour of sky * The colour of sky * Is blue, my oh my

See the original poem in the Mailbox (click on the envelope at left)

Simply Beautiful has won a 2007 Parents’ Choice Award! Parents’ Choice award-winning musicians and storytellers share a common bond; they know what it takes to grab and keep a child’s attention. Those who write original songs and stories deliver intelligent, inventive lyrics; they craft and tell a captivating story, in words and music. They create magical worlds that kids believe – and want to live in – if even for only a few minutes. Their stories and songs may be imaginary; their creativity and talent is anything but. Those who perform traditional songs or stories do so with a fresh approach and a personal imprint. Serious or silly, the material is delivered with a respect for the audience and the medium.” http://www.parents-choice.org/
